Port Overview
The port of Monywa consists of three locations at the river bank of the Chindwin river near town, used for passengers and general cargo, plus a river bank 2km outside town which is used mainly for timber trade. There are no berths or jetties, vessels moor directly at the river bank and use gangways. From Monywa the Chindwin river goes South to Pakokku, and North to Ta-Naing in Kachin state, via Kalewa.

Discharge Rates and Terminal Handling Charges
The below are vessel docking charges MMK per vessel per visit period, charged by a private company under supervision of Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River System (DWRIRS).

Ships are charged a standard fee for the use of the waterway by the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River System (DWRIRS), under the Ministry of Transport & Communications. DWRIRS charges 0.20 Kyat/MT capacity/mile, per trip (rate as of Jun 2016). This is charged at the river stations Twantay, Nyaungdong, Pyay, Magway, Mandalay and Kathar and for the Chindwin river at Monywa and Kalewa.

Stevedoring
All loading and offloading activities are manually performed. Daily workers are arranged through the labour exchange office at the port. The daily labour rates are as follows:
- 2,000 MMK/MT for unskilled labour (only loading and offloading)
- 5000-8,000 MMK/day for unskilled labour
- 8,000-12,000 MMK/day for skilled labour. (includes record keeping, tally counting and managing stack)

There is a connection to roads at the general cargo/passenger and timber port. No railway connection is available.
