Port Overview

Polloc Free Port is located in Parang, Maguindanao, and was constructed in 1977 funded by the ADB and started its operation in March 1980.  Currently the Port is being managed by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through the BARMM Regional Economic Zone Authority.  Polloc Free Port is being positioned by the BARMM as a halal hub. It is the biggest sea port in the BARMM Region but compared to other free ports in the country, Polloc Free Port is not that busy. 

Only two shipping lines have regular schedule in Polloc Free Port. Other vessels are mainly chartered loaded with construction materials. 

Polloc Free port’s main wharf is 400 meters.  Storage spaces are:

  • 11,960 m2 transit sheds
  • 42,940 m2 open storage area
  • 75,654 m2 private warehouse area

Container Facilities

There are no container facilities in Polloc Port. Containers are offloaded via onboard cranes.

Customs Guidance

The Bureau of Customs in Cotabato City manages the Polloc Free Port.  With complete documents and giving them an advance information of arriving cargo it takes less than a week to process customs clearance, Bureau of Customs charges include the visit to the port area.

Terminal Information

Multipurpose Terminal

Polloc Port has a passenger terminal and 2 transit sheds but it does not have a multi-purpose terminal.

Grain and Bulk Handling

The Bangsamoro Terminal Services, Inc (BTSI) has an exclusive contract on all handling activities in Polloc Free port, both arrastre and stevedoring. Direct bagging from ship is not normally done by BTSI but this can be negotiated with them. The port is receiving both containerized and break bulk cargo. 

Main Storage Terminal

Polloc Free Port has two transit sheds fronting the wharf, WFP is occupying a portion of one of the transit sheds. The total are of the two transit sheds is 11,960 m2 and the open space storage area is 42,940 m2. For containerized cargo the company yard is right inside the compound of the port.

Stevedoring

For stevedoring operations, Bangsamoro Terminal Services, Inc. receives palletized, breakbulk cargo, heavy lift and dangerous cargoes and containerized cargo. 

The manpower and equipment available are:

  1. stevedores (number depends on the type of cargo)
  2. gangboss
  3. winchman
  4. checker
  5. slingman
  6. forklifts and
  7. all gears below the hook

Port Security

BARMM is managing the vicinity of the port, they have security guards in the entrance and exit gates.  The Philippines Coast Guards secures the sea shore, they have personnel who are securing the area. The agencies occupying the transit sheds and warehouses have their own set of security guards.
