As a result of multiple shocks and stresses, including pressure from insecurity and displacement, the overall food security situation sharply deteriorated since 2015. In March 2019, 3 million person were concern faced by food insecurity.
Chronic malnutrition remains a public health issue, with 32 percent of children under 5 suffering from stunting. The prevalence of stunting is above the national average in Far North (42%), North (34%), Adamaoua (38%) and East (36%).
For NW and SW 37 percent 37% of the total population is food insecure, of which 8 percent 8% is severely food iinsecure. The total population in food insecurity represents about 1.5 million people of which 900,000 in the North-West region and 600,000 in the South-West region.
