Syrian Arab Republic Milling Assessment

  • In 2006 there were 33 government mills operating in all provinces with a total annual milling capacity of about 2 million Mt
  • Additionally there were 25 private mills available in Syria with a similar production capacity as the Government Mills
  • The main private mills in Syria have capacities of more than 300 Mt per day are the Al-Shaikh and Al-Zakry Mills in Aleppo
  • Many of the government mills are aging and only 5 mills produce 500 Mt per day
  • The remaining mill’s have capacities ranging between 80 – 400 Mt per day

Milling Company Al Zakri Mills

The Al Zakri Mill was founded in 1993 in Aleppo, about 190 km from the Lattakia and Tartous Ports. It started with two production lines to mill soft wheat with production capacity of 400 Mt/day, a third line was added to mill coarse wheat with capacity of 250 Mt/day

The GoS has 16 silo storage facilities across all provinces and major urban areas
The Syrian storage capacity in 2006 was almost 1.8 million Mt
