Due to the geographic nature of Atolls in the Marshall Islands, being small groups of narrow islands, availability of relatively large ground areas are rare. Additional issues with land tenure being that all land is owned by the local community of more specifically the chief or Iroji of that community. No land is owned by the Government. As such all land use requires the permission of the Iroji where area and rental is agreed upon. In the case of land use for temporary warehousing i.e .MSUs and Wick Halls this would also apply.

Storage is predominanltly  container storage and then only on the large atolls of Majuro, Ebeye, and Jaluit.  Larger permanent warehouse structures also only exist in Majuro. Container handling equipment only exists at the ports of Majuro (Delap) and in a limited way in Ebeye. Kwajalein Atoll also has warehousing and storage and container handling equipment however this is for exclusive use of the US army Garrison based there (USAG)

The Govt Procurement and Supply department under the ministry of finance have a warehouse in Delap dock to channel all incoming govt purchases. Procurement supply also have an MOU for storage of containers in the Delap dock area without demurrage.

Small transit storage facilities exist at Delap dock in Majuro belonging to Marshall Islands Stevedores for incoming international commercial freight. This is not available for additional humanitarian storage however Majuro Stevedores can allocate space to storage containers for humanitarian goods and if available erection of an MSU at Delap Dock.

Outer Islands

Container storage is also almost non-existent on the outer islands as vessels large enough to carry containers cannot anchor alongside dock with the exception of Likiep. However no container handling equipment is available on land unless they are dragged by earthmoving equipment if it was deployed

Storage on the outer islands will only consists of small copra warehouses and small storage facilities at schools or churches. Temporary storage and distribution points will essentially be focused around these schools and churches.

IOM currently hold prepositioned stock in the Marshall Islands shipping company warehouse at the Uliga Dock warehouse

Cold Chain

There are no cold chain facilities in RMI with the exception of the Majuro and Ebeye Hospital who have limited storage for blood. Options for cold chain storage could include refrigerated containers which could be bought in via Delap dock and positioned for use. The Tuna industry uses refrigerated containers extensively so they are handled regularly. One major consideration will be a reliable power supply
