Currently, Laos has only available short section of 9 km from Thanaleng to Nongkhai (Thailand) through Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge cross Mekong and can be connected at Nongkhai-Bangkok and the rest of Thailand railroad system.
Construction has begun on a rail link from China to Vientiane.
