This border post is only suitable for private cars and very small trucks due to road conditions. This border crossing is situated northeast of Mbala. The road  is made of good tarmac, up to 1km from Mbala, where it turns to very poor gravel and dirt.

The road to Mbala is made of good tarmac along the M1, from Mbala onwards, the road turns to poor gravel and dirt wich makes it not suitable for cargo trucks to make the crossing.

This border post is extremely quiet with little traffic of any kind crossing.  Only private vehicles are crossing.

Customs Clearance

Delays occur when documentation is incomplete.  Documentation requirements for food (cereals):

  1. Waybill

  2. Export permit (dependant on commodity)

  3. Certificate of Origin (COMESA/SADC)

  4. Fumigation certificate

  5. Export schedule (in case of Maize)

  6. Invoice

  7. Phytosanitary certificate

Electronic pre-clearance is possible and recommended through a forwarding agent.  A Bond is held by the agent for a fee. The ZRA is the Regulatory Authority. An nspection by the Ministry of Agriculture and the ZRA is required for any import and export.  There is a fee of 100 USD per foreign registered truck and 196 ZMW for Zambian trucks. All trucks are subject to inspection upon entering or leaving the harbour.
