Wa Airstrip is an airstrip serving Wa, the capital city of the Upper West Region of Ghana. The land was acquired by the Government in the year 1958. The Wa airstrip, which was used for domestic services decades ago, has been inappropriate for domestic flights for a long period. Domestic airline operators have cited the poor runway, lack of an adequate terminal building and other ancillary facilities for their inability to operate flights from Accra to the Upper West region. It has seen very little traffic, except for the occasional use of the facility by the Ghana Air Force in medical emergencies and also during political seasons. According to Ghana officials, the Wa Airport is to be completed for commercial passenger operations in 2016.
