Bauerfield airport can currently handle aircraft 737 to 767 aircraft, and has parking space for one aircraft only.
The surface strength will be upgraded to accommodate wide body jets. Bigger turning nodes will be developed and the apron increased to park three aircraft. This will enable direct flights from Asian aircraft of 787, and airbus 350 capacity.

During TC Pam a large 32 x10m MSU was constructed in the carport area. DHL, the cargo logistics handler at the airport, was contracted to manage this temporary warehouse. This was quite successful and should be considered for future large- scale disasters.
Fuel services are not readily available for unscheduled flights. It is important for disaster response aircraft to order fuel supplies several days in advance in Vanuatu.

AVL provides storage for airlines to put in fuel drums. 44 gallon drums of AVGAS, JET A1.
Prior arrangement must be made with the fuel company to order fuel. PPC has reserves for AV only.
