Airport overview

Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport is the only operational commercial airport in Lebanon. It is the main hub for Lebanon’s national air carrier, Middle East Airlines (MEA) and the Lebanese cargo carrier, Trans Mediterranean Airways (TMA). In addition, the charter carriers at the airport are Med Airways and Wings of Lebanon.

The airport is located approximately 9 kilometres from the city centre and is the main point of entry into Lebanon along with Beirut Port. The airport is managed and operated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and within the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The DGCA is responsible for operating the air traffic control (ATC) at the airport as well as controlling Lebanon's airspace.

The total area covered by the airport is around 7 million square meters and the overall area of the terminal building is 150,000 square meters. The current design and infrastructure allows the airport to handle 6 million passengers per year and to receive 30 aircrafts at the same time. The airport has 84 passenger counters, 21 passenger gates, and the parking area has a capacity of 2,350 cars. Future development plans aim at handling 16 million passengers by the year 2035.
