Port Overview

The Biratnagar Inland Clearance Depot (ICD) is well connected to the gateway ports of Kolkata (600 km) and Haldia (708 km) in India by road or rail. This facility is situated at a distance of 115 km from Katihar junction (Bihar-India). Biratnagar ranks 3rd in overall volume of trade of Nepal after Birganj and Bhairahawa.

For practical purposes in term of location, management, available facilities, warehousing and operating schedules, Biratnagar ICD can be treated as the same entity as Rani Customs Office. For more information, please see the following link: 2.3.2 Nepal Rani Land Border Crossing.

The port includes:

  • A canteen facility 
  • A cooking shed for drivers
  • Banking and foreign exchange services
  • An administrative block of 570 m2 floor area
  • A business centre with photocopy, stationery, telecoms, etc.
  • A back up arrangement of 250 KVA Diesel Generator to provide a 24 hour power supply

Port Handling Equipment

The Biratnagar Dry Port includes

  • One Forklift: 3,000 kg
  • Two Pallet Trolleys: 5,000 kg and 3,000 kg  

Customs Guidance

To facilitate customs examinations, the Biratnagar Dry Port has:

  • A 36 x 24 m appraisal shed with a 1.2 m high level platform 
  • A light structure shed designed especially to perform custom inspection of bullock carts and tractor trolleys

Terminal Information

The Biratnagar Dry Port includes:

  • Reefer plug points for refrigerator cargoes
  • A covered warehouse of 55 x 25 m with 1.2 m high level platform
  • An additional fully covered warehouse of similar size
  • A digital weighbridge installed 100 ton capacity 
  • Warehouses accommodated with Electronic Weighing Scales
  • A vacant area for adding up to 3,900 m2 warehousing / parking area for holding 150 TEUs.
  • A parking area for 80 trucks

Port Security

There is security around the clock through CCTV monitoring and security personnel hired from an outside agency.
