The port of Antsohihy is situated on the river bank and its only function is to ensure the connection with the district of Analalava (population estimated at more than 100’000 inhab.) which is located about 60 km northwest and only accessible this way.
Most of the activity is done from the port called "Solema", where all the passengers and commodities transit.
Each boatman who docks at the port must wait his turn before being able to board, departures are in between 3 and 4 daily depending on the number of passengers / goods.
The boats are mostly “boutres”, (local wooden made), and the goods that transit are bagged or packaged by small quantities. In town, further North West, a new port has been built for boats with larger draft but it is currently only used by the company Star.
