Laos is a land locked country, therefore it has no direct access to the ocean. Laos uses existing ports in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, as international trade and transport services depend on neighboring countries for access to seaports. There are seven deep-sea ports in Indochina which have international shipping routes, such as Bangkok Port (Klong Toei Port), Leam Chabang Port, Map Taput Port and Songkhra Port in Thailand, Sihanoukvilla Port in Cambodia, and Haiphong, Danang and Ho Chi Minh Ports in Vietnam.

Most of WFP imported cargo is containerized and comes in through the two principal ports of Thailand: Bangkok and Laem Chabang.
