2.5 Egypt Waterways Assessment

The main waterway is the Nile River part crossing Egypt with total length estimated 3,500km.  This length includes Nile River, Lake Nasser, Alexandria-Cairo Waterway, and numerous smaller canals in delta; Suez Canal (193.5 km including approaches) navigable by oceangoing vessels drawing up to 17.68 m. 

The Nile River is passable by barges, passengers cruises in some parts of areas within Egypt. Those areas are mainly Abu Sambel – Aswan  Luxor. In addition to some northern parts especially Asyout – Minya- Cairo
