Kawthaung airport is located about 11km from downtown Kawthaung. There are four domestic airlines operating: Myanma Airways, Air Mananday, Yangon airways, Man Yanandor, Air KBZ and the charter company Sun Far.

During the rainy season these airlines have daily flights but during the dry season these airlines fly to North, to upper Myanmar for tourists. During dry season only Myanma airlines has flights (daily flight Kawtoung-Dawei-Yangon) and Sunfar (Kawtoung-Meyik-Dawei-Yangon).
The terminal building was built in 1991. Maximum take-off weight of the runway is 6,078 Kg (13,400 Lbs). Maximum size aircraft that can land is an Embraer-E190 or Boeing 717-200. The airport has an apron for parking aircraft of 280 by 70m. There is no cargo handling equipment available. Myanma Airways is responsible for cargo handling; they have five trolleys. The other airlines have also five trolleys each. Fire fighting equipment consists of one small fire truck with water & foam and 4 50kg chemical powder cylinders. Myanmar police is responsible for airport security. There is a CCTV system with ten cameras, one X-ray machine for luggage, and one walk-through metal detector. Two handheld metal detectors.

Jet-A1 provided by MPPE by tank truck. MPPE has an office and fuel storage available at the airport in a compound near the control tower. Price of Jet-A1 can vary with other airfields in case it is imported from Thailand. Most other airfields are supplied by Jet-A1 imported from Singapore by MPPE in Yangon, but due to the proximity of Kawthaung to Thailand sometimes the Jet-A1 is imported by MPPE directly from Thailand instead.

Landing fees depend on take-off weight. Up to 5,000kg is 149 Usd, 5,000-10,000 Kg is 377 Usd, charged by Civil Aviation office. The landing charges are collected by the head office in Yangon, but the landings fees of foreign aircraft will be collected locally.
