2.1.3 Philippines - Mindanao Port Assessment
Home

The Philippines being an archipelagic country, sea ports plays a significant link between islands, provinces, municipalities and barangays and this is particularly true in island provinces like Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi which are provinces that are part of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.  The sea crafts being utilized within in the BARMM region varies from small boats for two passengers to passenger boats that can take 20 people.  In island provinces they have fast crafts and small cargo ships. Because the people of Lanao del Sur live around the Lake Lanao which is the second biggest lake in the country, the said lake is also being utilized in transporting people and cargoes.  Municipalities have their small sea ports but mostly poorly maintained and mostly privately owned.
