Indonesia Papua Storage Assessment

Access to facilities that offer storage in constructed warehouses is limited in the Papua province.  The option to use open storage should be considered as it is easily accessible and available throughout the province.  However due to the weather conditions the type and length of time that outdoor storage can be used will be limited.   The erection of MSU’s would be the most likely solution to the shortage of warehousing in the province for the humanitarian community.  There is adequate space amongst the airports, port area or government compounds for MSU’s.

Public Sector Storage

BULOG is the national Logistics organization for the Republic of Indonesia, is well established in Bali with a network of warehouses and distribution processes through the archipelago. BULOG Website: www.bulog.go.id

There is also a BNPB warehouse is situated due east of the centre of Jayapura.  The warehouse is part of a larger warehouse that has been split into two sections with a dividing wall separating each area.  The warehouse area is 1500m².  The warehouse is a permanent structure with cement block walls and zinc roof.  There is no platform access to the warehouse.

The access road to the warehouse is an unpaved road, 5 metres in width.  There is a limited turning circle which will restrict the type of vehicles that can access the warehouse.

There is no cargo handling equipment at the warehouse.  Therefore, cargo handling is reliant on labour or the hiring of appropriate lifting equipment. 

Cold Chain

Currently there are cold chain facilities available at Dinas Kesehatan (Department of Health) in Jayapura.
