Port Overview

The Port of El Nido on the island of Bacuit (El Nido), the most important town on the west coast of Palawan, is situated on the east of the peninsula of which Ipil Point is the southwest extremity. The town is situated at the head of a small bay which is fringed by a drying reef and fronted by foul ground as far as 800 m off its head. A stone causeway, its outer end in ruins, is located at the west end of town where a church is a prominent landmark. Anchorage can be taken 1.6 km north of town, in depths of 15 to 16.5 m, mud, protected from all but north winds. Occasional variable squalls of hurricane force blow through the gaps in the highlands making the anchorage untenable. Vessels approach the anchorage from the west via the narrow passage between the headland and Cadlao Island. From the north, the approach lies east and southeast of this island.
