2.2.12 Myanmar Chanmyathazi Airport
Airport Overview
The Mandalay Chanmyathazi airport is being used for small aircraft only (Cessna). Currently only Myanmar Air is using it for flights twice a week from Yangon, on Monday and Tuesday. It is not used for private flights.
There is railway multi-modal capacity nearby with a container gantry crane. It is situated very close to downtown Mandalay, therefore it could be a suitable location for a humanitarian cargo hub or open space for temporary shelters, in case of a large scale emergency such as earthquake. If there is a need to use this airport for humanitarian purposes approval would need to be obtained from the Department of Civil Aviation in Yangon.
