This airport is the only Syrian airport on the coast and is about 22 km south of Latakia, 6 km from Jableh, 16 km west of Kourdaha City and was previously known as Hmeimim after the nearest neighboring village
The passenger terminal was inaugurated in 1983 and the technical building and tower were opened in 1989
